Dads ol dodge

That's a nice shop! I'm dreaming up my garage I want to build. Definitely going to make it lift compatible.

No, I had a lot of guys steering me towards it but I can't justify the cost of the foam and plumbing under the floor. It's very expensive to install and I'm not thrilled with the idea of if something goes wrong your hosed with it being buried under concrete. I've always been plenty comfy without and am hot blooded anyways. The roll is left over from running water to the garage.

This is very much a low cost garage using lumber from the sawmill I work at and doing everything myself (with help) but am very happy, heat will be a high efficiency wood burner.
Definitely avoid floor heat.

2 X 6" studs and R-19 insulation everywhere. I used the concrete with the cut fiberglass threads mixed in, poured over 3/4" sharp gravel. Then I put down thick 4 X 8' sheets of insulation, then 4 X 8' - 3/4" ply wood, then 2" X 5 1/2" X 12' inexpensive tongue and groove wood planks available from Home Depot...3 coats of Outdoor Varathane does wonders. I installed the planks with the flush fit bottoms turned up: No fancy beveled joints this way...that's for the barbecue deck crowd. Flush fit doesn't catch every bit of fluff or small screws etc.

I use ONE 1500 Watt baseboard heater in a 24 X 30 (720 sq ft) shop! It works for all but really cold days (32F or lower) then I fire up the wood stove.

A wood stove does the trick...OSB ceilings with 8" insulation on top...

Build it bigger! You will never regret it.
Well as much as I agree with bigger is better one has to ask how comfortable do you want to be and what do you want that comfort to cost you? My current garage is a 32X60 insulated pole barn and it's miserable to cool and heat.

My approach to this garage was make it plenty big enough to work comfortably but no more, then create enough unheated storage to keep it clear of clutter. Because pole barns can be harder to seal up I built this one like a house, 2X6 studs, 2X12 ceiling joist and a full foundation. Walls are R19, ceiling is R30, the whole building is wrapped in house wrap to cut down on drafts, floor is 6" thick with 1/2 rebar over 4" of 3/4" gravel covered in 6 mill plastic then finally I splurged for really nice 2" thick R17 Haas garage doors.
To keep it clear there's a full 32X34 upstairs (cheap to add another floor seeings how you only need 1 roof and 1 foundation no matter how many floors you have) then a 24X24 addition (next year) for parking finished toys.

I did a lot of research on lifts trying to find a robust American Made lift and settled on Worth. They're made right in Texas and as far as I can see all parts are made right here as promised with the exception of the chain which he claims aren't available here. Do your research because once shipped overseas packaging becomes a priority meaning the lifts get smaller, this one is massive!

I ain't got no garage. my Step-Sons shop is all I'll EVER need, I got a paint booth and a single post for when ever I want. and he says thats for me as long as I can stand using it...... so I'm good with that! My own "little corner" of the world also includes a sand blast cabinet too! That is, if I EVER buy my own place, I might have a garage then but, not till that happened, I'm good where I is! PLUS the bay that goes to my single post, has a garage door BIG enough to get the beast in there and not have to do anything special then open it to get it inside!

EDIT:
I did fail to mention I AM JEALOUS! (I wouldn't mind having my own garage, but not with my current income!)

It definitely looks like a house!

How tall is that lift with the crossover?

12.5 ft. You can get shorter ones but they have a plate across the floor instead of the beam overhead, I don't like anything on the floor.

Haven't died or disappeared just busy still building the garage and getting ready to add on already. Hoping to get back on the Dodge Ram this Summer.... Dad's Chevy truck is literally falling apart so it needs done!

Made another Mopar purchase lately though:happy:. My daughter (10 yrs old) loves classic muscle so when I came across this I bought it, she's pumped to build it with me.

Great looing car,
she's a lucky girl to have you as her dad,
looks like a killer father daughter project too...
I like her taste in cars too...

you dad's old Truck was looking good too...

keep up the great work

I'm actually excited to get back on the old truck especially in my new shop where it will be better set up and easier to heat and cool. Hopefully only a few weekends on the bed and a couple more on the rest before primer starts going on.

Nice to see you back !

My wife say's " Most definitely " , That's her favorite car too ! ;)
Not saying it's a girls car but they certainly seam to have an appeal to the ladies. Myself, I've always loved that nasty looking mouth... just looks mean! For the price I couldn't pass it up, there's almost no rust to repair, is very complete, has a BB 400 and drives very nicely. Here's her plans for paint, again I'm proud of her decision.... chip off the old block haha.

Most likely Roadrunner style stripes coming out if the scoops into the front fender openings though (someone put a RR hood on it).

Have you seen the GTX that's going to be in the latest Fast & furious movie ? It's black on black on black on black . That's how my wife wants hers if she ever gets one . Minus the low profile wheels though . She's even got her 68 383 sitting on the stand just waiting for me to finish my magic touch and of course the body .lol
