So I've owned this old truck 32 plus years now and it had been off the road about 8 more before that, I towed it home and had only ever dreamed of driving it some day. Through life's hurdles it always took a back seat, working away on it a little at a time when I could and when the budget allowed. We'll the day finnaly arrived, I put three months insurance on her, called up my eldest son for the inaugural run and took her for a short drive over to my other sons house. It ran fairly well, I discovered I need to re-bleed the brakes and I know it needs an alignment as I had replaced ball joints and upper control arm bushings during the restoration process, so I'll deal with those this week and then enjoy driving her the rest of the summer! For those interested in the power train, nothing too special , a mild 318, cast iron case a833, 8 3/4 rear with a 392 case and sure grip 3.23 so fun but not too rowdy, just a cruiser.

Actually the bed looks very much like the 78-79 D-series trucks.

Is that a swap or stock.....'cause if it's stock the style is timeless. 👍

Good spot kiwigtx! There is virtually nothing stock on this truck, the cab is indeed a 56, it sits on a 81 Dodge frame sadlly the stock box was in very poor shape so i sent it except for the tailgate to the the metal recycling bin many years ago. The box on it now I removed also many years ago from a 78 Warlock, in hindsight I should have kept the entire truck but they were not as valuable or rare at that time. The outside fenders were actually the same from 1953 to 1984 when they went out of production but the early box and gate were narrower and sloped up at the sides. I actually prefer the flat side. On a side note, I built a tribute bench with the original tailgate for the truck!

I added a couple more bench shots for some reason there not very flattering the way the light shines the wood looked dull, it's not. Also a few more interior pics I used 6 way power Dakota R/T seats.

Very cool truck...and I do like the bench seat you made from the old tail gate. I have been wondering what to do with the centre part I cut out of mine.
It was all beat up from years of cargo movement....then someone decided to hammer it - obviously not a Panel Guy....lol

So far I have a bare steel section....your bench seat gives me an idea now of what is possible. 👍

Congratulations on finally getting it back in the road! Its been fun following along. Now we need a bunch of pictures every time when you take it out.

Yesterday there was a large car show in my town, it was it's 7th year but I had never attended before in the past due to other family obligations anyway it's a pretty big show with some beautiful cars and trucks and it only excepts 1979 and earlier north American vehicles ( a few exceptions ) so my self and my two sons entered all three of our vehicles and traveled and parked together, 79 Dodge s/b utiline truck 340/a833 4 spd, and 70 Duster 318/a833 4spd and mine in the middle, it was a lot of fun but very hot! And a bit of a cluster getting 500 plus cars off the golf course it was held on and back on the road after but the officials did a great job getting every one out in a timely fashion!

Here's a few more photos plus two from another car show I attended last week which was about 50 kms away from my house, the longest trip I'd taken it on yet, it ran really well, it was a beautiful drive up the coast of Vancouver Island, the weather was awsome, my eldest son was behind me there and back in his 80 Dodge truck to, great day!
