Just wanted to introduce myself and my truck. My name is Wayne and I live in Ohio. My truck is a 1984 Dodge D100 with a 318 and a a833 od 4-speed. Truck was my daily driver for the last year or so but I recently got a 2003 Dakota to be my daily driver. I sold my my built 89 Dakota- minus the motor and tranny. So now all my attention is going to go to the 84.

Overall the interior is in nice shape. I plan to mostly leave the interior alone maybe a few mods but nothing major at this point.

The rear is a 8.25 with 2.94 gears. I will be swapping rears. Either going with a 8.75 or 9.25 rear. Plan on running 3.73 or 3.90 gears. Would settle on 3.55's if that's all I can find. Here is a pic of the motor that is going into my truck. Its a 360 la with magnum heads really built. A fellow on Moparts built the motor for me. I had it built for my Dakota and it has less than 200 miles on it. The motor is wicked!

The build will take off here toward the end of June. Thats when I get the bed and fender...... Its going to be a budget build. Good thing is the motor is already built and I didnt take any short cuts in that. I will be asking for help and your opinions also!! So please feel free to to make suggestions. When I get the bed off I plan on swapping the rear then and lowering the back. Also plan on lowering the front. As far as paint, I am leaning toward John Deere Blitz Black right now. Also thinking maybe of blue- and painting the top white. I would paint white above the chrome trim that runs along the top of the truck. I will be painting this myself and I have never painted before. I will practice a bit on the old bed. Overall the truck is solid. Frame, floors, cab etc.. are rock solid. The only rough spots are the fender and bed. And I am replacing them.

Any pointers on removing the bed and fender would be greatly appreciated! Never have done this before. Also I would like to pull the motor and tranny as one unit. What all is involved as far as the clutch linkage etc.? Can I leave the shifter mounted to the tranny and the linkage? I know I would have to pull the handle. And I plan on installing the motor and tranny together also.

Will post updates with pics as I go along. Will be buying headers, new clutch kit etc... For the motor install. Thanks

Hello from Minnesota. Was your Dakota you sold the green one I've seen on FABO or somewhere? The 84 should be easy to work on, the fender should come off fairly easy, bolts along the top and down at the bottom. Might be some along the inside where the door pivots into but I'm not sure. I vote for the blue and white paint scheme, like Patrick66 has on his old Dodges. I haven't seen JD Blitz Black. I'll have to check it out. Thanks for all the pics, we always love that! I look forward to followinga long with your build.

Just a few pointers. The 318 and 360 flywheels are balanced differently.
If you want to remove the engine and transmission together remove the front clip.
2 bolt in front core support (under radiator ), 1 bolt under rear of front fenders. 1 bolts behind fender at front door jamb and 1 bolt under crowel. Wiper arms will have to be removed and screws on front crowel panel.
Radiator can be left in place.
Body wiring disconnects at the bulkhead. Then little things like wiper motor wiring and engine harness.
The front clip will clear the bumper but may take some wobbling.
The hood is also left in place.
It will take 2 people to remove the complete front clip.
Also check the bed mount locations . Beds may look the same but the mounts have varied in location over the years.

Nice project !! Love a short bed. Is that wheel aftermarket with a factory button?
