Looking for breakdown numbers for a 1978 Lil Red Express; I am buying a 78 and I know they made 2188 of them total but I don’t have any breakdown numbers of options. I think this thing has a few options I don’t see a ton of like AC and gauges like tach and volt and vacuum gauges. It has buckets as well. Any help would be greatly appreciated. For such a short run there isn’t a lot of this info. Thanks in advance.

Does anyone have production breakdown numbers for 1978 LRE trucks I know there was 2188 made but does anyone know how many with the different options?
Thanks in advance

Unfortunately Mopar never kept records of the options ordered - we are lucky to know the totals.

But a 78 with AC and the optional gauges is pretty rare. The buckets are actually the norm for Lil Reds even though it was an option most people opted for them.

Rarest items are the SE package, AM/FM/CB, and a suregrip rearend

Awesome appreciate the knowledge this is my first LRT but always loved them. This one didn’t have the CB but did have the sure grip and am/fm cassette. Just curious did the LRT ever come with a wood grain instrument cluster bezel or all silver?

I thought I saw somewhere that there was a four-speed manual transmission available, but it was very limited.

What about a painted bed? I assumed my bed was a repaint but the guy I bought it from thinks it was factory “said he read it somewhere that it could be factory but I couldn’t find it anywhere.

That is a correct bed - they were painted from the factory the same color as the truck AND the wood in the floor was actually pine so most rotted out within a few years and you have what we you normally see today - nice clear coated oak beds with painted or polished ss strips

Thanks man; I guess I’ll leave it until it gets bad then make it fancy😊. You are a wealth of knowledge on these I maybe sending you messages and pictures if you don’t mind. Thank you.
