I didn't know what scotch broom plants were so I googled it, wild pretty weeds, crazy, looks like snow returning in your area depending on elevationWe actually had some sunshine and decent temps today, so I figured I'd try and trim some of that pesky scotch broom (if it's around 2" base stem diameter or larger it's less likely to drop seeds and sprout back). Problem: the clutch on our MAIN chainsaw seized, so now we have no working chainsaw. One needs a carb rebuilt, the other needs the clutch unstuck. Can't cut it otherwise, our loppers aren't big enough for a lot of this stuff
They're an invasive pest all up the Pac-Northwest, they grow fast & plentiful and they're hard to kill. Slack for one year and they'll push in. They're worse than blackberries, blackberries at least have berries to offer up. In most cases they'll drop seeds if disturbed or pruned, so even if you pull a juvenile plant it'll try to drop seeds and you'll have to watch for any sprouts coming up. Mature plants are less likely to drop seeds if you cut em at the base. Removal works best in late summer after they drop seeds and the soil is too dry/malnourishing for them to recover, but you can do it early spring too if you catch it early enough.I didn't know what scotch broom plants were so I googled it, wild pretty weeds, crazy, looks like snow returning in your area depending on elevation
LOL wish I could but too much "other" burnable stuff nearby. Can't write-off the neighbor's house! How about trying a match! You could call it a controlled burn! The forestry service does that to prevent fires from getting out of hand. You might even be able to write it off as your contribution woodland preservation-LOL
