Hey everyone, I am looking for public opinion on a product I am developing. It is a tension monitoring device for ratchet straps. It is attached to the ratchet strap and indicates the strap's status to the driver through a mobile app.

For those of you that use ratchet straps with your pickup truck, what are your thoughts on a product like this? Do you think monitoring strap tension during transport is a problem that requires a solution? I have photos on my website Intelligent Secure Strap if you are interested in getting some more info.

Let me know your thoughts!

Well from An "OLD FARTS" perspective. For some reason people think everything that is electronic is good and/or necessary? Why is beyond me. So here are my thoughts. They DO NOT HURT. Would I ever buy it -Not a Chance! An "app" means this can be added to your phone?, which means while driving you can look at it and see if everything is OK ? So eyes come off the road and to a screen on a phone? Good Plan- NO!!!!!!!! Straps have been around - seems like forever- 1) Before you attach them LOOK at them & make sure they are in good shape, 2) you get them tight, 3) drive 15-30 miles, pull over -in a safe area check the tension & adjust if necessary. DONE. Stop with all the "app" looking. Now if in the directions you add a information to stop and look at the electronic unit itself Great ! My suggestion is just but your hands on the straps and feel the tension! Improve the "wheel" don't try to reinvent it. There was a craze in towing forums about crossing straps when you use them, it was said that it offered more stability. Of course it would BUT if a strap failed the other remaining one would pull your load sideways, after all it was still tight the other one was not. Company's Like Mac's that make straps and towing gear Say NOT O GOOD IDEA!!!
But it is a "gizmo" and people love GIZMO"S so it might sell very well? Good Luck.

If someone needs an app to tell them their straps are okay, that person shouldn't be doing anything associated with straps in the first place.

Go ask truckers what they think about your gizmo, they'll ridicule you til the cows come home. Not to mention, how many states is it illegal to hold your phone in your hand? And who is going to keep their phone on the app page to monitor straps? I'd buy spray on hair before I'd ever consider a product like this.
