Hello everybody, this my first post so be easy on me. I hope this the right place to ask.
I am in the planning stage to swap a late model hemi in my 1987 D250. I hope somebody here can help me out. I saw in the archives that somebody was going to do this but it looked like it never got started, from that post is were i got a link to Street&Performance.

First what year engine and trans set up would be best, i am thinking 2010 or so with 545RFE trans. Also is Durango setup the same as the full size pick up?I plan on getting a pull out from my buddy at the wrecking yard with all accessories and PCM from the same truck.

Street and Performance can do the harness and flash the PCM and they make mounts for this swap.Has anybody ever used them before?
Any Help will be appreciated.

Welcome to the site!

From what I have read, if you get all the factory stuff off the same vehicle, engine trans pcm and whatever else you need, you shouldn't have too many issues in terms of getting the engine and trans sorted out. Mounts and engine placement would be the biggest hassle, I would wager. Good luck and keep us posted.
 
Thanks for the reply's. I can't believe I am the only guy doing this swap! This is the second swap for this truck, the first was 1996 5.9L Magnum,done in 2002, running a GM ecm on home made harness. That replaced the original 5.9L carburated engine. It gave me almost 200,000 miles. The 96 was used when i got it, it gave me over 100,000 miles its tired so one more swap will do it
This truck is the last one I will own as retirement is looming, the new power package should do the trick.

I have done these type of swaps before both for customers and for my self over the years. LocoMob your right, I am getting a complete truck to dismantle so all of the bits and pieces will be there, the mounts are going to be the hardest part so the engine is located properly and at the correct angle. I am going to eliminate alot of stuff the new trucks bring like evap and the post cat o2 sensors, so I am going to need a custom flash.
I will keep you guys posted on this project.

I have heard that 05 is the best year for a transplant donor. I know the bad part is, it doesn't have multi displacement. I have heard guys on challenger forums complaining about timing chains causing catastrophic failure in engines with variable cam timing.
On later models there is the SKIM key issue to deal with and the most current ones have "EVERYTHING " tied in on the CAN network. I don't know of anyone building reliable stand alone computers for them. If going in a truck, you shouldn't have any exhaust issues. Ram Durango or Dakota should all be good donors, no Jeep. Things are weird with them. Just check the glove box build sheet for 545RE trans, a shade stronger than 46RE.

Hello everybody: due to lightning strike on my building I have had no electronics available for over a week.
Thanks for the reply Funwithfuel. I have been waiting for the right donor to show up at auction at the right price. Up to 2008 pick up will work perfectly with the least hassle. After that the accessory placement like AC compressor and alternator and PS pump make it harder to fit in my chassis. It could be done but I have to modify my chassis.

Street & Performance out Mena AR has the motor mount frame adapters and can build me a simplified harness and flash my PCM

I will keep you posted on progress on this project.

My brother just completed a Hemi swap in his 78 Warlock. He did a 5.7 out of a 2009 Ram with the VVT system and also a Viper T56 6 speed transmission. He has had it running now for a few weeks and is loving it. I don't believe he is on this website, but he is on Forabodiesonly.com as Cu440da. He'd be glad to share his experiences with you.
 
I am new here, but I can throw in some experienced knowledge. The best years to use are 04-05. These use the same PCM for both motor & transmission. Avoid the 03 as the PCM is just not as friendly. Street & Performance builds harnesses, and so does Hotwire Auto. The PCM can be programmed by anybody with the equipment and knowledge. I personally do my own programming using HP Tuners, but that is just for SKIM disable and minor changes such as trans, EGR, and O2 delete.

I'd like to know how this swap went too . Just because the only new gen anything swap we have here is TinCups V10 swap . Come on guy's , where's the build threads ?
