It's nice to see a drivers side Ramcharger seat that isn't all tore up for a change ! lol

I have a 1986 dodge ram charger. It’s got the factory bucket seats with the arm rests. The inter tubular frame finally snapped and broke so my seats won’t sit up right they fall back like recliners 😂 I want to install new bucket seats. Maybe original or aftermarket.

If I go the aftermarket rout can I just bolt them onto the original seat pedestals it came with?

Maybe. It all depends on how the seat is made, where they locate the bolt holes for the tracks. Many aftermarket seats are generic in their mounting.

I figured as much, just thought I should ask due to this being my first time replacing bucket seats in this thing. Thank you very much!!

If the covers and foam are in good shape why not just repair the frames. Covers and foam are not that hard to remove and install. You may need so rings and pliers to attach the covers with.
I have welded seat frames back together before.

I’m definitely going to repair them because the foam and covers are perfect still the frame is just broken. I was going to just get a temp seat untill I fix them because it’s my daily and I’d hate to have perfect bench and passenger seat and a non matching drivers seat

Older thread I know but I'm about to do this in my 85. Got the seats and ramcharger pedestals, actually found a ramcharger in the local yard yesterday, seats were shot but I have a nice pair of RC seats that came to me without the pedestals.
The actual seats in a van were the same but pedestals were different, higher in the van.
Between 2 RCs in the yard, one had both pedestals (I left the seats they were trashed) and the 2nd RC had the driver side one still there. Somebody else beat me to the pivoting passenger side on that one. I got all 3 pedestals among the 2 trucks. I left all of the seats.
I gave the pass side one to my son as he has an 89 ramcharger with a screwed up latch. Unfortunately the junkyard one was so crusty the hinge broke on the pass side but his original hinge is good. I think it's something that could be made if needed.
Being mine is a reg cab pickup I'm gonna go with 2 driver side (solid) seat pedestals with my RC seats.
I actually have 3 nice RC seats without pedestals in my garage attic. 2 of the higher option package ones that match and one "cheaper option package" seat (different fabric pattern). without a mate as well that's in good shape, may trade that one or make a shop chair out of it....
Now I just need to find a maroon RC console to match. I know where there's one in a closed local yard (different than where my seat pedestals came from) the console is there but seats missing, I know a guy who knows another guy that might be able to get me in there without getting in trouble..,.. waiting for that to come together.
Also wanting the bird bath hood and associated parts off of another Dodge in the weeds out there that's been there forever.

I had thought of going that way. Will be interesting to see the final seat height. I like some headroom. I have been have some luck using the existing bench base and building a frame to set the buckets on. Still use the track that came on the buckets. My truck has the high tunnel if it makes any difference. Presently using 89 Intrepid seats. Built my own console but still not done with the design. For some reason needs have changed over the years.

With the ramcharger seat pedestals I believe that seat height will be same as with stock bench if not a little better...(Guess I better describe "better" since it can go either way haha) I mean possibly slightly more headroom

I remember when I had my 83 d250 (all stock, original seat) my son hitting his head on the roof a time or 2...... I'm about to start putting that truck back together actually.
You say 89 intrepid? No such car. 98? Maybe. My mom actually had one of those.

Your right, wrong year. That's and old age thing. But at least I remembered the make. Maybe not those seats aren't that new. Will it will come to me sometime but I do believe the year to be correct w
One seat was 88 and the other 89. Two cars setting side by side. Even the same color. Took the best of the four. Then went home and washed the mud out before in stalling. Cloth covering is the cooler to sit on. But dirt magnets.

Dirt magnets is right. I have a set in the attic for another project, a volare. I was up there last week and couldn't cover how dirty they got just sitting in the attic

It came to me this morning. The truck has Lebaron seats in it. Not an all out luxury seat. But darn comfortable on long trips. Even though it has been over three hundred miles from home.
When the 518 trans goes in that may change.
