56 Dodge truck build

Yes I will. I’m out of town until Monday. I think I have it written down out in my shop. I tracked him down by calling Contraras CAMS in LA. They gave me his cell. Hope that helps

windage tray was a problem. Mounting was supposed to be with studs in the main caps that had 3/8” studs that extended up to attach The tray with. Problem for me was I had the engine assembled when I decided to use the tray. Studs clamp differently that bolts and can cause caps to become out of round. Only way to tell is to check the bores. I wasn’t going to disassemble the motor for a tray. So I pulled some 340 main caps bolts I had that were meant for a factory tray. I found some 1 1/8” aluminum spacers. 1/4” hole in the center and 1” in diameter. Grade 8 bolts 2 1/4” long by 1/4” torqued to 108”#. That was over a month of screwing around to figure that all out.

This picture shows where the 340oil pump adapter had issues. The collar around the oil pump shaft was about .030 too long. It inferred with main cap. I took the oil pump apart and had a buddy broach off .060 off the collar. This allowed the pump to set square on the adapter. There are some reports of shaft failures with these adapters. Mine would have failed in time had I bolted this up without catching the problem.

Not often we see snow shoes hanging on the wall.
Odd seeing valve covers bolted down at the gasket surface. Was expecting to see them bolted threw the top like the old poly. Was that standard for all the old hemis?

I need to haul the snowshoes up to my cabin. I agree that don’t belong in the shop. Yes all the Hemi’s used perimeter studs on the valve covers.

I'm back at work on the 56. The 341 Desoto is just about finished. It has a solid roller cam that requires adjustable push rods. I had a lot of trouble making all that work. Next was making breathers in the valley cover. Then I had to massage the oil pump drive adapter. The distributor stuck up out of the block. After that I worked on creating an alternator mount from scratch. The third try was the charm. I've got brackets for the power steering pump that will need to be modified to work with the chevy water pump adapter. I get that worked out and I will be bolting the engine to the transmission and drop in the chassis. It is all powder coated and assembled. I want to fire the motor in the chassis to work out any issues with leaks etc.

Surprised to read about the need for adjustable push rods. Would have thought that hemi came with adjustable rockers.
