Yellow I am looking for a 360 LA engine
to swap into my 73 D100
The closer to running the better!
Will consider rebuildable cores that are in good shape

If years will help 71-88 would be things I would be open to!
Essentially pre magnum

Could be a Slant6 !

First time I see the antenna on the driver side fender. All of my D truck have it on the passenger side
Nothing wrong with the/6.
I built one up to put back in my '85...
For what you need to change to swap to a v8 (exhaust, trans, mounts, radiator etc) the money yous spend on all of that can be put instead towards building up a better /6....

Exactly, nothing wrong with the slant6, you supposed it was probably a 318 so I just added it could be a slant6 too 😉

And?

It drives me nuts that so many people bypass the/6 and the 318 to jump straight to the 360.
Most 360s I have had that haven't been gone thru are absolutely turds

Screw that.
You'll never get the slant six to equal the power and performance of a V8, especially a decent one.
Some of you slant six fans are delusional. The slant six is great for early Darts and Valiants and farm trucks. After that, it sucks. It sounds terrible and makes no horsepower until you modify it so much, it needs a 5000 stall converter and 4.10 gears.

I am building 2 trucks. An 85 1/2 ton and a 83 3/4 ton. The 85 is an original/6 truck on which I built a fresh one for, and built up. I want to see what I can do with one. I didn't have a v8 trans, v8 mounts, v8 exhaust, V8 radiator, so I put "that" money into building a stronger better/6.
Then there's my 3/4 ton.that ones gonna be a 360 with an nv4500 5 speed stick.
And no, working with a/6 is not "delusional" by any stretch. I know I can get more out of a v8. I never said I couldn't. But I also like DIFFERENT, which is why I don't have a Camaro a mustang a Chevelle or a jap piece of crap. I don't see any of these trucks on the road around here any more. All the more reason for me to do 2 of them up.
And the /6 will do fine for what I want it for.
Every vehicle doesn't have to be a tire shredder, and get 7 mpg or less ..
And for a daily there's absolutely nothing wrong with a 318 either. I've had too many to count, and they're quite the work horse.
I would be putting that in the 3/4 ton (like it had originally only worked up a bit) if I didn't have laying around what I do.

While I didn't mean to offend, I don't think I was wrong.
A slant six in a 4500 lb truck is going to be a slug. You won't be able to tow much or haul much unless you always on level ground with no traffic around you. If you try to tow a load that the suspension can handle, the slant six won't get any better mileage than a 318 since it will be at WOT just to get up to speed. The engine will work much harder to do the same job that a 318 or 360 can do.
Good for you if you want to build a slanty truck. Different isn't a bad thing as long as you know what your limitations will be.
Out here in CA, stuff doesn't rust like it does in the snowy regions. I see old trucks frequently. Hell, I have one myself.....

The truck with the/6 is 4800 GROSS. That's 3 people in cab, gas tank full and probably 800# in the bed. No cargo and just me in the cab it's probably more like 3500#.
I've had a couple of/6 trucks. As daily drivers to get back n forth to work they get the job done. Now what's stupid, my other truck is a 3/4 ton and getting a carb'd 360 mag. I am always looking for parts whenever the gettin is good, and there's a rolling chassis I see available, with motor, trans, early 90s truck. Motor and trans still there, but this rolling chassis came from the factory with a 3.9... in a 3/4 ton!!! That's stupid.
