The snozberries taste like snozberries.
This is a question I've been pondering for the past week. I just picked up a 96' GrandCherokee with the 318mag. It needs quite a bit of work. I only payed 600 for it anyways, I have a 93 cherokee and f.e. parts interchange and the 93 had rancho shocks and stabilizer plus the track arm was solid. I figured if ole' jenny was going to the crusher I'd take what I can. I was under the 96 and realized someone remove the front drive shaft hey wait just minute, someone removed the front axles too, hold the phone no pinion either. This was all to my amazement so I do the ol swaparoo with the parts I looked down to the rear diff and notice a pond of ATF right where the Tcase and Tranny mate. Now I know a lot of people go from 2wd to 4wd: However I figured since the front diff is basically a straight axle incognito and the t.case probably weighs in at about 150 +/- how hard would it be for me to change the 44re over to a 2wd version. In my travelings around the vast information super highway , I have seen a few different threads about it, actually it was 3 to be exact. the 1st didn't have much info on what it took to do the change in the tranny, just you need to change the output shaft and that it wasn't that hard. The 2nd wasn't to informative either he did however have a diagram straight from the USTGA book or whatever, I'm getting old it's harder to recall quickly with all this other info up in my head. The 3rd said the only thing you need to do is swap out the overdrive units. The 2wd OD is in the tailshaft and the 4wd is right before the tcase, of course the drive shaft would need to be changed, but if this 3rd guy is right I'm doing that way easy besides I live in south carolina we don't need stinking 4wd it never snows well, hardly ever. My wifes 01' Jeep G.C. has 4wd at least she is good. So sorry for this being soooo long I was trying to get picture across and then some. So chime in, yea or nay on number 3, maybe a combination of 2 or all 3 Thanks In advaced.
