Is the charge/discharge gauge an issue on the mid 80's rams? I have been troubleshooting mine and it will not move the needle, but no issues with charging, it is just bugging me.

Mine will only show a discharge with lights on and cranking, been like that for near 20 years, no issues with charging though.

In the 70's the gauge completed the charging circuit so if your gauge was messed up or burnt it wouldn't charge . But in the 80's it doesn't . My 84's hasn't worked since I got it about seven or eight years ago and I have no charging issues . That truck is a wiring nightmare that's why I haven't fixed it . There's three different year harness's in it and a computer thanks to the previous owner . Would you want to mess with it ? lol

My 82 has never shown a charge it will hardly show a discharge. I installed a voltmeter so I know the system and battery status running or not.

I've been thinking of doing that but I haven't decided whether to use a Volt gauge or an Amp gauge yet . I know one thing though . I should have something because of all the electrical stuff I run in the winter . It would be nice to be able to keep an eye on things in that department .
