Hey guys, does anyone know if I order the gas tank straps from lmc if they will fit on my 74 d100? I think the straps 80-89 or something like that. If they do not work I'd be happy to buy off a member if anyone has a set. Thanks again guys.

I've been trying to find some for an 83, all I see is like 89-up and nobody can answer whether or not they'll also fit my 83

All I can find are 88/89 and up anywhere I've looked. I have 1 good one on mine and 1 good one coming (used) from an 85 out of Texas. A guy I know from another forum that gutted the 85 unfortunately let 1 go to the scrap yard with the carcass, between the one he sends me and the one original I have here on my truck I'm going to get some stainless strapping and some stainless tee bolts (have them located in McMaster Carr catalog that I can make work) I'm gonna make a set of my own.... It's crazy that we have to resort to those measures just because we don't drive a shivvy or a Furd... I'm just fortunate enough to have the tools and ability to make such parts.

I love my dodges but am so tired of being forgotten about by these parts places.... You can build a shivvy or Furd of any body style you want from the ground up brand new via a catalog but they seem to think US dodge owners don't matter, are ok parking our trucks because we can't find some minor part... It's bullshit

The plastic tanks don't rot out and take the straps with them. With the tanks not rotting away there's little need to take a tank out so there for replacement straps are not needed as much. Aftermarket companies only make replacement parts for stuff that goes bad frequently. It's a mixed blessing I suppose...

My son had an 80 step side a few years ago, when he got it it had a cracked tank. It wasn't leaking when he got it, but it had some kind of glue, putty, etc on it covering the leak. I don't know what the PO used on it. Or how long before my kid bought it. Whatever it was held good for a while. I don't remember if it started leaking again on it's own or if he picked at it.
Anyway he found a guy who has a plastic welder ( I do but don't have enough experience with it to have felt comfortable trying a repair like that) at a local body shop that was sure he could fix it, the kid took it out and to this guy 3-4 times ("he 'guaranteed' his fix would work and told my kid to bring it back if it leaked) a couple of times it went anywhere from a week to a month before it started leaking again, the other time it leaked as soon as he put gas in it the first time upon getting it back.
We hunted all over for a replacement. Most places poke gas tanks as soon as they get them in (talking junkyards there). There's one yard near me that has quite a few 60s-70s vehicles, (still there but no longer open, I've been talking to the neighbor and trying to get in there for a couple of years off and on) but they have some '74-75s that we looked at, way different especially in the location of the filler neck.
. Somewhere I found out '79-80 only. I found one out of an 84 ( that place said 81-87 all was the fitment) that looked like it "had to work" and I didn't get under to see but the kid tried and said no way. Eventually I found a hole in the wall junkyard that was hard to find because of all the overgrowth in front of it, and they had a 79 3/4 ton long bed. Remember my kid's was an 80 step side. That 79 tank went right in.
I found out later I'd have had to get the cross member out of the 84 that I first got for him to put in that truck and swap that out and that tank would have them went right in....

On another note I know for a fact that with early 90s Dakota's you can put the 22 gallon tank in place of a 15 easily
when I was messing with those. Short bed, long bed cab and 1/2 don't matter. Same straps, same fuel pump/sender and everything.

Thanks for the post don, that's pretty interesting. I have a 74 with a 72 tank, the fuel neck to gad tank connection is going to be interesting to say the least. Thanks for letting me know about the gas tank and straps working, there is a pull a part down the road from me with a 90s Dakota in it. Might be worth a look. Thanks again.

Not saying the Dakota tank would work in a full size pick up, I was talking from one Dakota to another. And 87 was the only year a Dakota was available carbureted, putting a fuel injection tank in will open more cans of worms.
I haven't worked on 72-74ish trucks in years and have never touched a gas tank in one of either of those years but 8 would "think" those would directly interchange. But I've been wrong before on "close year" gas tanks interchanging
