I tried to do a search for this but it just kept pulling up 1974 d600.
so I am looking in to a 1950 dodge b1b and I was wondering what would be the best frame to set the body on or if it would be best to just use the frame its on with a sub frame snubbed in or just use the frame its already on as long as its usable. If a sub frame would be best would someone mind telling me what sub frame to use. thanks in advance

I have started a 57 D100 on a 79 1/2 ton pickup chassie it fits all right but the front will need wheels with a inside offset to make the stance look right. I have since seen and read several posts that say Dodge dakota is the way to go for size and engine availability.

From my research so far as for setting it on a different frame I have came up with single cab short wheel base Dakota and as for a sub frame I am finding most people use the volare sub frame

I'm not sure on the volare sub frame idea , so I can't say anything good or bad about it . The best I can tell you is that the first gen Dakota is the best fit in wheel base and track width . The Ramcharger is a close fit in the wheel base department but like Birdman said the track is a little wide . I've seen people use the S10 frames but that one is a little on the narrow side . You'd also have to fab up some frame mounts to keep a Mopar engine and transmission in it . Speaking of fabing up . If your going to attempt a frame swap . How are your welding and fabrication skill's ? Nothing is really a bolt in swap .

Just measured my 1993 Dakota extended cab frame. Dimensions at front cab mount location. Frame O.to O. 83 1/4". Cab mount C. to C. 90 1/4" centered on frame. It is my understanding 92 and up gen. 1 frames will except V6 and all A engines with out mods. Hope this helps.

Bear I am actually leaning more towards the dakota because I have heard the same things about past swaps and I'm a good welder and good at fabrication Thanks to my towns technical career center.

Was getting ready this morning and thinking about my post yesterday. Frame dimensions are all wrong, dam dyslexia anyway. Frame dimensions should be. Dimensions at front cab mount location. Frame O.to O. 38 1/4". Cab mount C. to C. 45 1/4" centered on frame.

Personally I'd go that way as well if I wear doing a two wheel drive and if I were building a 4x4 then I might be thinking the Ramcharger route . I'm glad to hear that your good at welding and fab work and it sounds like your trying to plan everything out a head of time . You'd be surprised at how many people attempt body swaps like this and think it's just a bolt on thing and they have "no" knowledge or skill at any type welding and or fabrication . Then they end up with either a death trap or a project that ends up being just a pile of parts and never gets done . Keep us posted on your build . ... Please ..

FYI, I have a 56 Dodge step side shortbox, I tried using a Volare clip on the original frame but it didn't work very well so I now have it mounted on a 83 Dodge truck frame, unfortunately I had to cut the firewall and move the cab forward for the front fenders to line up with the wheels so now I have to shorten the frame about five inches for the gap to be correct for the box to fit, arrggh! but it will work, and yes the front wheel off set is wrong but that is an easy one, I think a Dakota frame would have been better but I am going to use what I got
