i own 2 of them a 90 ctd and an 82 1/2 ton that i installed a 97 5.9 ctd in. raced mopars for 12 years late 60s early 70s. been driving this 82 for about 7 years tuning and tweaking on an off. have had more fun with this truck than all 4 race cars.

i put a 97 ctd in my 82 1/2 ton about 8 years ago. so far no frame cracks, no front wheel bearing failures. easiest swap this old man has ever done. hardest part for me was reworking radiator support. with 90 diesel mounts it bolted in the 318 frame holes. did have to change to heavier front...

i would personally use ester oil. i think ford is now getting away from pag oil. i have had ester oil in my 90 with 134 for at least 8 years with no problems.
