78 is a bit new for me. But dodge ran wires thru the bulk head connector. I assume the wire don't connect to any thing in the engine or come close to an electrical component. Does the truck run an operate fine now.
Does the red wire look like it was add to the fuse box. My I initial thought is...
Im guessing the orange wire next to the blue wire is the start wire. You should have continuity between that point and the orange wire connected to the starter relay
My first thought if your alternator burnt your wires is to look at your voltage regulator, is it good and is it grounded. Or are you running the magnum alt controlled by the 5.2 computer. 1975 is a bit new for me, does the truck still use an ammeter. Regardless if you are using newer more...

Maybe a larger torque converter was an option or it was swapped. A quick look at rockauto shows 11inch tq with a 10 bolt circle for yours as well as a 94. But when I look at a 74 d300 360 I see they offer a 12 inch tq with a 11.125 bolt circle. I assume you will have to find a different tq.
I don't know about 2001. But the pressure plate bolt circle for 11 and 12 inch clutches for Dodge and I believe ford used to be the same. Rockauto shows a 12 inch clutch for the np435 trans for 440 application in 1977. Made sure you get a 5.9 flywheel for the balance and pickup notches. If I...
